USA is about to break out the manual for its new series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cable network has ordered a pilot for Operating Instructions.

The medical-themed script, written by Judd Pillot and John Peaslee, revolves around a female trauma surgeon who returns home from Iraq to take over as the chief surgeon at a military hospital. There she must wage war with a different sort of enemy: the bureaucracy of the United States medical establishment.

"Quite simply, Judd and John knocked it out of the park, with one of the best pilot scripts we've read in a long time," said Jeff Wachtel, executive vp original programming at USA and co-head of original programming at Universal Cable Prods. "They brought their incredible comedy chops to a traditionally dramatic setting -- and the result is electric."

The pilot order does still hinge on casting and no casting or production schedules have released.
