Horror anthology series V/H/S is back with another installment of found-footage frights just in time for Halloween. Bloody Disgusting's Brad Miska, who has served as a producer on the series since its eponymous first film debuted in 2012, shared news of the upcoming V/H/S/99 on Thursday.

Premiering October 20, V/H/S/99 will be the fifth entry in the series and the second Shudder Original. The streaming service previously rebooted the anthology with 2021's V/H/S/94, which quickly became Shudder's biggest movie premiere to date.

As the title suggests, V/H/S/99 will follow its predecessor '94 in returning "back to the final punk rock analog days of VHS while taking one giant leap forward into the hellish new millennium." Though specifics of the individual segments are being kept under wraps for now, the connecting story promises a "series of horrifying revelations" that arise from a teenager's home video.

"The last year of the '90s was a perfect playground for us," producer Josh Goldbloom told Bloody Disgusting. "DVDs surpassed VHS, Blair Witch took the world by storm, and Y2K fears created a sense of apocalyptic dread. Add that to 6 of the most creative genre filmmakers in the world, and we're confident that this is biggest, baddest, and most wildly savage V/H/S yet."

The V/H/S series has had an impressive list of horror filmmakers directing its delightfully disgusting segments over the years. From X and Pearl's Ti West to You're Next's Simon Barrett, several prolific directors have returned to V/H/S across multiple installments. Now for the first time, V/H/S/99 will feature entirely new filmmakers bringing their visions to the franchise.

These new additions include The Strangers: Prey at Night's Johannes Roberts and Tragedy Girls' Tyler MacIntyre. Also joining the film's directors are Vanessa & Joseph Winter (Deadstream), Maggie Levin (My Valentine) and musician-turned-director Flying Lotus (Kuso). "Fans of our franchise are going to love V/H/S/99. Each new film in the series is a chance to showcase a different ensemble of talented and diverse filmmakers," said executive producer Michael Schreiber. "I'm extremely proud of the work that V/H/S/99's filmmakers have put in to bring their terrifying visions to life."

Per Bloody Disgusting, V/H/S/99 is produced by Josh Goldbloom for Cinepocalypse, Brad Miska for Bloody Disgusting, David Bruckner, filmmaking collective Radio Silence, and James Harris; Michael Schreiber and Adam Boorstin will executive produce for Studio71.
