Vince Vaughn has signed on to star in and produce a theatrical remake of The Rockford Files for Universal Pictures.

Rounders screenwriters Brian Koppelman and David Levien will write the script for this big screen version of the series. The show ran from 1974 to 1980 and starred James Garner as private detective James Rockford, who worked from his mobile home near the Malibu beach, and used his unique blend of charm and wit to talk his way out of trouble.

The actor will also produce alongside his Wild West Picture Show Productions partner Victoria Vaughn. No production schedule was given.

NBC was planning on a reboot of the series The Rockford Files, although that was shut down last year.
