Academy Award nominee Viola Davis has plans to lead a biopic based on civil rights politician Barbara Jordan. The film will be based on biography, "Barbara Jordan: American Hero" by Mary Beth Rogers.

The politician was the first African American to serve in the Texas Senate since Reconstruction, Barbara Jordan was also the first black woman elected to Congress from the South, and the first to deliver the keynote address at a national party convention. Her powerful oratory stirred a nation and her ideals of ethical leadership inspired millions. The writer first met the politician in the 60's, and their paths crossed over the years as they pursued their careers.

The actress is also attached to Gavin Hood's Ender's Game and Richard LaGravenese's Beautiful Creatures. This film will be directed by Paris Barclay.

This project is in early development.
