Warning: This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse.Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness Focuses mainly on Wanda's story and grief, so you would think that we would see an appearance from Vision, since the sentient android is a huge part of Wanda's journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is definitely difficult to justify the absence from the beloved android, but due to the multiverse being opened, there are a plethora of ways Visions absence can be explained.

The latest entry into the MCU sees Scarlet Witch attempting to gain the powers of a multiverse traveling superhero; America Chavez, so Wanda can travel to a universe where she can finally be with her kids, Billy and Tommy. With Wanda searching the Multiverse for her children, why doesn't she also search for Vision?

Why Didn't Wanda Search For Vision?

As to why Wanda didn't search for Vision in Multiverse of Madness, it could simply be that the android is dead in every universe. Wanda could have already searched the multiverse for a universe where she had everything she wanted, a universe with the love of her life and her two children. But, every time she looked, Scarlet Witch would always find the same result; another universe without Vision.

Scarlet Witch's plan was to live in a universe with her two children, Billy and Tommy. However, in every universe with Billy and Tommy, there is a variant of herself, and Scarlet Witch has every intention of disposing of the Wanda in that universe to finally live happily ever after with her boys. This could explain why Wanda searches for a universe without Vision, as Vision would have been able to tell it wasn't the Wanda he knows and fell in love with.

Vision would have then tried to stop Scarlet Witch, and our MCU's Wanda would have had to kill Vision for a third time. At this point, the events of Wandavision would have then felt inconsequential, as all the grief and loss Wanda dealt with in the show would have all come flooding back, and the growth Wanda went through by dealing with the loss of Vision would have then felt insignificant.

Where is Vision In Earth-838?

Wanda with Twins
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

During the second act of the movie, Wanda takes control of a variant of herself through dream walking. However, when she does so, there are no references or pictures of the android leading audiences to believe that Vision from Earth-838 doesn't exist. If you have seen the movie, you know that Earth-838 is where we meet the Illuminati, and the Illuminati members we see in the movie are important to explain that Vision doesn't exist. In the comics, the Illuminati consists of characters such as Professor X, Iron Man, Namor the Sub-Mariner, Black Bolt, Mr. Fantastic and Doctor Strange. While we do see Professor X, Black Bolt and Mister Fantastic in the film, the secret organization is missing an important character to the creation of Vision; Iron Man.

We are lead to believe that Tony Stark doesn't exist in this universe either, with Stark not being a member of the Illuminati, but also that there is no reference to Iron Man ever being present in that universe. In the MCU and the comics, Tony Stark is the reason as to why Vision exists, due to the billionaire attempting to create a new AI as part of a peacekeeping program called Ultron. Since Tony didn't create Ultron, the evil AI never attempted to put his AI program into an android body, which would lead to the creation of Vision.

On Earth-838 fans have been theorizing that it was actually Reed Richards that created the Ultron bots we see in the movie. Due to Richards being the smartest man alive, it is possible that he created the Ultron program without the AI turning evil and into the super villain; Ultron. This would then explain why Vision doesn't exist in this universe. Nonetheless, with Vision not existing in this universe, many audiences would question how Billy and Tommy would still exist with Vision absent. Wanda could have summoned the exact same spell she did in WandaVision and created them herself, and we see that Earth-838's Wanda still has magic, so it could be possible that Wanda conjured a spell to create Billy and Tommy, which she not only does in WandaVision, but in the comics as well.
