Three months after Sony Pictures released the first trailer for their highly-anticipated thriller The Walk, the studio has debuted the film's first IMAX trailer with plenty of new footage. Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as Philippe Petit, who pulled off the stunt of a lifetime in 1974, performing a thrilling high-wire walk between New York City's iconic Twin Towers. The story is based on Philippe Petit's book To Reach The Clouds, which previously served as the basis for the Oscar-winning documentary Man on Wire.

The Walk is the true story of a young dreamer, Philippe Petit, and a band of unlikely recruits who together achieve the impossible: an illegal wire walk in the immense void between the World Trade Center towers. With little more than nerve and blind ambition, Petit and his ragtag crew overcome daunting physical obstacles, betrayals, countless close calls and overwhelming odds to beat the system and execute their mad plan. Shortly after Philippe Petit ended his walk, he was arrested by New York authorities, although all of the charges were eventually dropped, under the condition that he perform a free aerial show for children in Central Park.

Twelve people have walked on the moon, but only one man-Philippe Petit-has ever, or will ever, walk in the immense void between the World Trade Center towers. Guided by his real-life mentor Papa Rudy (Ben Kingsley), and aided by an unlikely band of international recruits, Petit and his gang overcome long odds, betrayals, dissension and countless close calls to conceive and execute their mad plan. Robert Zemeckis, the director of Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Back to The Future, The Polar Express and Flight, again uses advanced technology in the service of an emotional, character-driven story.

With innovative photorealistic techniques, The Walk is true big-screen cinema, a chance for moviegoers to viscerally experience the feeling of reaching the clouds. It's a love letter to Paris and New York City in the 1970s, but most of all, to the towers of the World Trade Center. The supporting cast is rounded out by James Badge Dale, Charlotte Le Bon, Ben Schwartz, Clément Sibony and César Domboy.

The Walk will debut in an exclusive run in IMAX theaters starting Wednesday, September 30, before it opens nationwide on October 9. This upcoming thriller will go up against Warner Bros.' Pan on October 9, but don't be surprised to see this in the top 10 at the box office during its IMAX run. Check out this four-minute trailer and stay tuned for more on The Walk.
