If you've been enjoying Jared Padalecki in Walker, there's more where that came from. The CW has put into development a planned prequel series dubbed Walker: Independence with a teleplay by showrunner Anna Fricke and writer Seamus Fahey. Padalecki is attached as an executive producer, and though The CW hasn't yet officially ordered the prequel to the series, he's teasing fans will love what they have in mind for the story.

“There is so much space [for story]. So kudos to Anna and Seamus and the gang for coming up with this awesome idea," Padalecki explained, per TVInsider. “With the prequel, we [see] how the Walkers became the Walkers, how the Davidsons became the Davidsons, and how they became our version of the Hatfields and McCoys…we go way back to the 19th century to meet the first Walker who shows up in [Texas] and see her journey into set her own path.”

Unless he's featured in flash-forward sequences, we can presume Jared Padalecki won't be featured in his role as Cordell Walker. The plot of the prequel takes us back to the late 1800s and follows Abby Walker, an "affluent Bostonian whose husband is murdered before her eyes while on their journey out West. On her quest for revenge, Abby crosses paths with Hoyt Rawlins, a lovable rogue in search of purpose. Abby and Hoyt’s journey takes them to Independence, Texas, where they encounter diverse, eclectic residents running from their own troubled pasts and chasing their dreams. Our newfound family will struggle with the changing world around them while becoming agents of change themselves in a town where nothing is what it seems."

Teasing that the great state of Texas will feature more heavily into the story, Padalecki added, "We realized in Season 1 that, much like our Impala, Baby, was a character in Supernatural, Texas is a character in Walker. “This is where I am from, and this is part of me, with all of its goods and bads. I'm going to try and really accentuate the goods in my own life, acknowledge the bad, and move towards the former and away from the latter. So this is a love letter [to Texas]…we’ll get another sense of where Texas might have been a hundred-plus years ago and that’s going to be awesome.”

Walker is a reboot of the series Walker, Texas Ranger, which starred Chuck Norris as Cordell Walker. The series is the first major role for Jared Padalecki following his exit from Supernatural after 15 seasons (his co-star Jensen Ackles would go to The Boys). The show has co-starred Lindsey Morgan as Micki Ramirez, though she abruptly left the series during the second season.

“After much thoughtful consideration and introspection, I have made the incredibly difficult decision to step away from my role as Micki Ramirez on Walker for personal reasons, and I am eternally grateful to have the support of the producers, CBS Studios and The CW in allowing me to do so,” Morgan said in October upon her exit. “The opportunity to play Micki has truly been a blessing as has working alongside the incredible cast and crew of this terrific series. Please know that I will continue to root for my TV family and wish them all the best.”

You can watch Walker when episodes air on The CW on Thursday nights at 8/7c.
