Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine made big headlines last month, when Ryan Reynolds revealed that the actor would be joining the MCU in Deadpool 3, despite having seemingly retired from the role following his character’s death in Logan. However there is another star hoping to join Reynolds and director Shawn Levy in the movie, and that is The Adam Project’s Walker Scobell. Deadpool 3 director Levy recently revealed how the youngster is attempting to add to his current roster of roles, which includes playing the lead in the upcoming Percy Jackson series, and reunite with Reynolds on his MCU debut.

Walker Scobell has had quite a year so far. Having appeared in The Adam Project, the actor has since been seen in the Paramount+ movie Secret Headquarters with Owen Wilson, and will play the titular hero in Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+. As his range of roles continues to expand, it seems that returning to work with Reynolds is something that he really wants to do. Levy told E! Online:

“Walker is adorable because he not-so-subtly keeps sending me pictures of Deadpool. He's very overtly giving me casting ideas. I'll just say Ryan and I both adore Walker, and we feel like we met him at this magical time between childhood and adolescence. He's now firmly in adolescence, as we all saw when he made his Percy Jackson D23 appearance [on Sept. 10]. If we can find any excuse to reunite with Walker on our Deadpool movie, we're going to make it happen.”

With the Deadpool franchise already being one of the most popular R-rated franchises ever, the arrival of the Merc with a Mouth in the MCU is the stuff of box office gold. Add in the completely left of field announcement that against all expectations Hugh Jackman will be back as Wolverine, and an announced release date, and things have escalated very quickly.

Since Ryan Reynolds made his internet breaking announcement that Jackman would be joining him in his first MCU adventure, director Shawn Levy and Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld have both revealed that they already knew about Jackman’s return well in advance of the confirmation being made public. Reynolds and Jackman also appeared in a video together to clear up some fan questions about how this impacts the events of Logan, where it fits timeline-wise, and a number of other queries that were always going to be asked.

In the end, all fans really wanted to know has been revealed in that original announcement, and it is going to be a long wait to the movie’s release on September 6, 2024, but that also gives everyone plenty of time to work on the many fan theories already on the internet about how the pair’s story will pan out. Of course, at the moment the only people who actually know were the MCU will take Deadpool and Wolverine are not sharing just yet.
