Kevin Durand, who plays Vasiliy Fet on FX's The Strain, recently held a conference call to promote the show's season finale, The Master, where he also revealed that AMC has approached him to play the villainous Negan on The Walking Dead.
Here's what the actor had to say, when asked about different TV shows the fans would like to see him in.
"I've had a lot of people with The Walking Dead talk to me, mentioned that they see me for a character named 'Negan,' but I haven't read the comic."
After The Governor (David Morrissey) was killed off during Season 4's action-packed mid-season finale, many fans wondered if the iconic Negan would finally pop up on the series. Comic book creator and series executive producer Robert Kirkman confirmed in December that the villain would not show up in Season 4, revealing there needs to be some space between The Governor's death and Negan's debut. In the comics, The Governor's death occurred in Issue 48, while Negan didn't make his debut until Issue 100.
In the comics, Negan is the leader of a group known as The Saviors, who brandishes a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire which he calls Lucille. This villainous character is also responsible for the death of a beloved character in the comic book, who is still alive in the TV series. He uses his power and resources to force other survivor communities, such as Hilltop Colony, The Kingdom, and the Alexandria Safe-Zone, into paying The Saviors to protect them from the zombies.
The Strain has been renewed for Season 2, with the show set to debut next summer on FX. It's possible that both The Strain and The Walking Dead's production schedules do not overlap, since they air during different times of the year, so it may be possible that Kevin Durand could play Negan and still return to The Strain.
