We've heard plenty about AMC's new spinoff Fear the Walking Dead over the past few weeks, but not too much about the return of flagship show The Walking Dead. Today we have word that Straight Outta Compton star Corey Antonio Hawkins has signed on to play Heath in The Walking Dead Season 6, and we also have a photo that gives us our first look at this new character. Heath was first introduced in issue 69 of Robert Kirkman's comic book series.

Heath is an Alexandria resident who, in the comics, eventually becomes a supply runner and good friend to Glenn (Steven Yeun). Heath also has a love interest named Denise in the comics, but it isn't known if this character will pop up in the sixth season. Corey Antonio Hawkins will have a recurring role as Heath this season, but it isn't known how many episodes he will show up in. Many times, The Walking Dead actors who start out as recurring characters will be promoted to series regular status, which happened with Michael Cudlitz's Abraham Ford, Christian Serratos' Rosita and many others. Corey Antonio Hawkins plays rap legend Dr. Dre in the upcoming biopic Straight Outta Compton, in theaters August 14.

We last left off With Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his crew in Alexandria, where Rick murdered Pete (Corey Brill), after he accidentally killed Reg (Steve Coulter), the husband of Alexandria leader Deanna (Tovah Feldshuh). The season ended with Daryl (Norman Reedus) bringing Rick's longtime friend Morgan (Norman Reedus) to Alexandria, just as Rick killed Pete. While we wait for more details on the upcoming season, check out the first photo of Corey Antonio Hawkins in the new season of The Walking Dead.
