A lot of fans were upset that The Walking Dead Season 6 finale didn't show Negan's victim, instead leaving this as a cliffhanger. That same scenario won't play out when it comes to The Walking Dead Season 7. Showrunner Scott M. Gimple has confirmed that this year's arc will have a definitive ending.

As The Walking Dead Season 7 heads into the homestretch, the action is amping up. Rick has convinced most of the surrounding communities that they need to take Negan head-on and fight him to the death. Now, those events are fully set in motion. And the final three episodes, the first of which aires this Sunday night, March 19, will go full steam ahead into this shared ultimate goal. And there are going to be some big moments coming in the next three weeks.

The end of this latest stretch of episodes will bring in an all-out war. And the team is really putting the pedal to the metal in getting everyone to that finish line. Says Gimple about these final few episodes of the spring season.

"We step on the gas and we do not let our foot off the gas until the end of episode 16. Although because I'm working on season 8 now, the foot is on the gas again! I mean, the next three episodes we're going to shoot you through a lot of big events and things become quantum intense."

Some fans feel the last couple of episodes leading into the big finale are usually sold through with filler. That won't be the case this time. But still, what does that mean for the final episode of Season 7? Fans don't want to go through another summer waiting to know which of their favorite characters will die when the show returns in the fall. And that's definitely not happening this time. Gimple explains this to Entertainment Weekly.

"I just think it's everything. It is everything and the kitchen sink. It is exciting and it's very emotional and I believe it's funny in a couple parts, and it builds and builds and builds and it explodes. And though it promises more, because there is a whole lot to get to, there is an ending. It really is just a huge episode inasmuch as it has all of the flavors of this season. It is taking your cup and going down each soda jet and taking a little from each one and then throwing in some hot sauce, a little bit of lime, and then maybe a tiny bit of tequila, as well."

The one thing that is for certain is that Negan will not die in The Walking Dead Season 7 finale. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is already confirmed to return as a main character in Season 8. That doesn't mean he won't suffer some sort of great loss in this upcoming finale. The run up to the season finale airs this Sunday at 9pm, only on AMC.
