With just three days left until The Walking Dead Comic-Con panel on Friday, July 21, from 12:15 PM to 1:15 PM in Hall H, AMC has released a new photo from Season 8, featuring Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan), who both seem to be preparing for war. It is believed that AMC will showcase the first trailer for The Walking Dead Season 8, while also likely announcing the Season 8 premiere date, but until then, we have this new image to check out, plus details from showrunner/executive producer Scott M. Gimple.

Entertainment Weekly debuted this new photo, while also speaking to Scott M. Gimple, who confirmed what fans have expected since the Season 7 finale, that this season will delve into the All Out War comics. These comics span two volumes and shows Rick's community in Alexandria teaming up with the Hilltop Colony and The Kingdom, to fight off Negan's (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) group, The Saviors. Here's what showrunner Scott M. Gimple had to say about where Season 8 picks up.

"We have basically set the stage for All Out War. Negan's said it, everybody has seen they're in it. It will play out quickly and propulsively and attentively and will shift around the focus quite a bit between the different places and battlegrounds and characters and communities."

After the two-volume All Out War story wraps up in the comics, the next volume entitled A New Beginning starts with the 127th issue, which surprised many readers when the story leaped forward two years in time after the war, showing all of these communities at peace. Scott M. Gimple teased this Walking Dead time jump in the past, hinting that there are some things that happened in that time jump that are "super interesting," hinting that material might make it into the show, but that will likely be in Season 9, unless the show throws us a curveball and wraps up the All Out War volume in the first half of Season 8, with the back half of the season focusing on A New Beginning. When asked about Rick, Scott M. Gimple teased that the Alexandrian leader finally has his "swagger" back, but he still approaches things differently.

"His swagger is definitely back. But it's a measured swagger. It's a focused swagger. He absolutely has it and you will see it in episode 1."

Scott M. Gimple said that the pace will be set right away in the Season 8 premiere, which will also mark the show's 100th episode, stating that he wants the audience to "hold on to their seat as they're thrown through this thing." The series is also in mourning, following the death of stuntman John Bernecker, who passed away at just 33 years of age, after suffering serious head injuries after he fell more than 30 feet to the concrete floor.
