The Motorcycle Diaries director Walter Salles is in talks to direct New Line's animal drama Our Wild Life, produced by Mandalay Pictures' Peter Guber and Cathy Schulman, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Formerly known as Peaceable Kingdom and Elephant Orphanage, Our Wild Life is based on the life and work of Daphne Sheldrick, an animal conservationist in Kenya who devoted her life to sheltering elephants from war and poaching. She also was an expert in animal husbandry for infant elephants and rhinos.

Jeff Stockwell wrote the script.

Nick Cassavetes was attached to direct but was let go during the summer. Cassavetes later sued New Line, claiming he was booted after delivering a full rewrite of the script.

No production date was announced.
