The Planet of the Apes franchise is more popular than ever, thanks to the massive success of 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes and last year's sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Planet of the Apes 3 is currently in development, with Dawn of the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves coming back to direct, with 20th Century Fox setting a July 14, 2017 release date earlier this year. Today we have a new yet unconfirmed report which reveals the sequel will be entitled War Of The Planet of the Apes.

While we don't know for sure if 20th Century Fox is officially going with this title or not, it does make sense, since the end of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes revealed that a massive war between the humans and the apes is coming, after any hope for peace between the two sides was lost forever. Director Matt Reeves revealed in an interview that his original ending for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes showed the war truly starting, although the filmmaker took it out because he didn't want to leave himself too "boxed in." It's worth noting that there was also a warship that was shown in a Dawn of the Planet of the Apes international trailer but it was never seen in the finished product.

The director has also teased that the third movie will show Caesar (Andy Serkis) evolving into a "seminal figure in apes history," as he becomes a general of sorts to lead his species in war against those damn dirty humans. While Andy Serkis will certainly be back as Caesar, no other cast members have been confirmed for the sequel quite yet. What do you think of this new War Of The Planet of the Apes title?
