While video game adaptations fail more often than not at the box office, that trend could be reversed this year with the highly-anticipated Warcraft. Only one movie, 2001's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, has earned more than $100 million domestically at the box office, but that movie may have some company when Warcraft debuts on June 10. To get fans ready for this highly-anticipated release, the Warcraft Movie Twitter page has released two new character posters, revealing Medivh The Guardian (Ben Foster) and Khadgar The Seeker (Ben Schnetzer).

The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders. Orc warriors are fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home. So begins a spectacular saga of power and sacrifice in which war has many faces, and everyone fights for something.

Warcraft stars Travis Fimmel, Dominic Cooper, Ben Foster, Paula Patton, Toby Kebbell, Ben Schnetzer, Robert Kazinsky and Daniel Wu. This action epic is directed by Duncan Jones and written by Charles Leavitt and Jones. Warcraft is a Legendary Pictures, Blizzard Entertainment and Atlas Entertainment production.

The producers of Warcraft are Charles Roven, Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, Alex Gartner and Stuart Fenegan. Jillian Share, Brent O'Connor, Michael Morhaime and Paul Sams serve as executive producers. Rob Pardo, Chris Metzen, Nick Carpenter and Rebecca Steel Roven co-produce. 2016 could end up being the year that proves movies based on video games can actually succeed. If Warcraft is a big hit, it could be the start of a new wave of successful video game adaptations, with many more high-profile adaptations coming soon.

While we still have a long wait for Warcraft, it seems likely that it could be the highest-grossing video game adaptation, paving the way for other highly-anticipated movies such as Assassin's Creed, starring Michael Fassbender, and Splinter Cell, which has Tom Hardy set to star. Do you think Warcraft could usher in a new wave of blockbuster movie adaptations? Let us know what you think after checking out these new posters.
