Ezra Miller has been at the center of controversy over the last six months, with their name repeatedly being featured in headlines for the wild antics that took place. However, Miller is set to star in The Flash, making its way to theaters in the summer of 2023. The DCEU movie is expected to reset some aspects of the connected universe, with appearances from Ben Affleck, Michael Keaton, and Henry Cavill all on the table.

However, introducing some new and old heroes wouldn't be the only thing The Flash resets, as recent rumors have begun to spread suggesting George MacKay is at the top of Warner Bros.' list to replace Ezra Miller as the titular star in future installments. MacKay is known for his role in 1917 and would presumably take over the part of Barry Allen as the DCEU continues to move forward. The report comes from several sources on Twitter, which can be seen below.

Grace Randolph initially reported the scoop, which was further corroborated.

However, a few other insiders say nothing is set in stone until after The Flash reaches its 2023 release date.

Whether DC and Warner Bros. have cut ties with the actor is hard to say. Miller reportedly filmed additional flash reshoots last week, and the script for the follow-up sequel is already in the works. They have played the character since their introduction in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016, though it wouldn't be unlikely to see the star depart the franchise. So, for now, fans will have to wait and see whether George MacKay is the new fastest man alive.

George Mackay is best known for his World War 1 film 1917. The picture, helmed by Sam Mendes alongside legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins was nominated for 10 Oscars, including Best Picture, walking away with three wins. MacKay starred alongside Dean-Charles Chapman, bringing an authentic portrayal as he witnessed the horrors of war.

MacKay also appeared in How I Live Now alongside Saoirse Ronan and Tom Holland and in Captain Fantastic with Viggo Mortensen and Samantha Isler. However, a prominent role in the DCEU would be the most significant role to date for the 30-year-old actor. Audiences have already fan-casted a few actors to replace Miller in the part, though it would be hard to complain about the rumored choice from Warner Bros.

Fans will eagerly anticipate an announcement from Warner Bros. regarding Miller and the franchise's future. However, audiences won't expect any news until 2023, when The Flash arrives in theaters on June 23.
