It seems that we'll be seeing a sequel with two popular London detectives sooner than originally believed. Heat Vision Blog is reporting that Warner Bros. has set a December 16, 2011 release date for Sherlock Holmes 2.

The news was revealed by Warner Bros. chairman Barry Meyer at the Time Warner investor day in New York City. Meyer also revealed in his presentation that the studio is "nearing" a green light for one of its many DC Comics adaptations in development, The Flash, although it wasn't clear when an official announcement on the film would be made. Meyer also said that the studio was considering a holiday 2012 release for the next Superman film as well.

Among the studio's other DC adaptations are Wonder Woman and Aquaman. We'll be sure to keep you posted on any further news of WB's comic book films, or Sherlock Holmes 2 as soon as we have more information.
