The book recounts the true story of journalist Jack Unterweger, who also strangled prostitutes in Vienna and Los Angeles in the 1990s, and would cover his own crimes as well. After receiving a life sentence, Unterweger hanged himself.

"This is about the power of celebrity, and what happens when this sociopath goes to Los Angeles, a city that is the prototype for reinvention," said Bob Cooper, one of the producers on the film, alongside Richard Saperstein.

No production schedule for the film was released.
