Sharky's Machine: According to Variety, Warner Bros. and producer Basil Iwanyk are regreasing the gears of Sharky's Machine.

The studio has hired Jerry Stahl to script a remake of the Burt Reynolds film, which WB released in 1981.

Stahl, who wrote the heroin memoir Permanent Midnight, will give the crime drama a contemporary twist. Reynolds directed the original and starred as a vice squad cop who assembles a team and goes after a group of brutal bad guys. Pic was based on a novel by William Diehl.

"Sharky's" becomes the second Reynolds starrer getting a major studio redo; Adam Sandler is toplining a remake of The Longest Yard for Paramount.
