Several images from the upcoming HBO crime drama series, We Own This City, offer our first look at The Punisher star Jon Bernthal as a Baltimore Police Officer. The series comes courtesy of David Simon and George Pelecanos, the creative team behind HBO's seminal series, The Wire, and promises to be equally complex, gripping, and powerful.

As per an HBO press release: “We Own This City is a six-hour, limited series chronicling the rise and fall of the Baltimore Police Department's Gun Trace Task Force. It examines the corruption and moral collapse that befell an American city in which the policies of drug prohibition and mass arrest were championed at the expense of actual police work.”

Based on the book of the same name by Baltimore Sun reporter Justin Fenton, We Own This City will be led by the brilliant Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead, The Punisher) as Sgt. Wayne Jenkins of the Baltimore Police Department, the central figure in the sprawling federal corruption case that centered on the agency's Gun Trace Task Force, a plainclothes unit that went completely rogue and began hunting and robbing citizens and drug dealers alike as decades of a relentless drug war and mass incarceration in Baltimore spun wildly out of control.

Bernthal will be backed up by an equally brilliant supporting cast that includes Josh Charles (The Good Wife, In Treatment), and Jamie Hector (BOSCH, The Wire). The rest of the supporting cast is made up of McKinley Belcher III, Dagmara Domińczyk, Darrell Britt-Gibson, Rob Brown, Don Harvey, David Corenswet, Larry Mitchell, Ian Duff, Delaney Williams, and Lucas Van Engen as well as guest stars, Treat Williams, Jermaine Crawford, Domenick Lombardozzi, and more.

We Own This City also has an impressive team behind the camera, with The Wire, Treme, and The Deuce duo David Simon and George Pelecanos on board to write and produce the series. They will be joined by long-time collaborators Nina K. Noble as executive producer and Ed Burns as writer/executive producer. King Richard director Reinaldo Marcus Green will helm the limited series, having recently worked with Jon Bernthal on the Academy Award-nominated biopic of the father of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams.

We Own This City is scheduled to premiere on HBO on April 25, before being available to stream on HBO Max.

Aside from leading We Own This City, Jon Bernthal is rumored to be returning to the world of Marvel in a new series of The Punisher. New reports have claimed that The Punisher's comeback is set for release on Hulu, which would allow the character to continue his violent retribution outside of the family-friendly platform, Disney+.

Until then, We Own This City sounds like the perfect project for Jon Bernthal to demonstrate once again why he is considered one of the best working actors right now, with the series itself possessing all the ingredients needed to become a TV classic.
