There's still hope for Wedding Crashers 2. Released in 2005, the original Wedding Crashers starred Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn as a pair of divorce mediators who "crash" weddings looking for new women to meet. The R-rated comedy was a big success at the box office, prompting interest in a sequel, but while there have been rumors and rumblings of a sequel for many years, Wedding Crashers 2 has yet to come to fruition.

In promotion of his new film, the superhero comedy Secret Headquarters on Paramount+, Wilson provided an update on the status of Wedding Crashers 2. Per Extra, the actor says that original director David Dobkin is still trying to get the ball rolling, apparently "exploring ideas" on where the sequel could go. Wilson also touched on the success of the original and shared his hope that if the sequel gets made, it will match the original in quality.

"David Dobkin, the director, I think he's sort-of, kind-of still exploring ideas, and it was kind of one of those movies that we had such a great time doing it, and obviously, it got a really nice response. So, just hoping that if you do do something, that it will live up to the first one."

So, how far along is the Wedding Crashers 2 screenplay? While it doesn't sound like a finished script is all ready to go, it seems like Wilson may have seen some pages, as here's what he coyly said when asked if he's seen a script.

"They're working on some stuff, yes."

Wedding Crashers 2 Is Happening According to Isla Fisher

Last year, there were reports that Wedding Crashers 2 was very close to getting greenlit. According to these reports, the planned project fizzled after Wilson was cast in a major role in Disney's Haunted Mansion remake. There were rumors of David Dobkin coming back to direct Isla Fisher and Rachel McAdams returning for the sequel alongside Wilson and Vince Vaughn. If timing was the major issue, then perhaps the movie might still happen if everyone can get their schedules lined back up. Wilson previously teased that he was "sure" the film would get made one day.

"Yeah, there is a script and David Dobkin - who directed the first one - has been working on it, and we've been talking about it," Wilson told Collider in June 2021. "It's been nice talking to Vince, and it's one of those movies that really seemed to connect with people. If we can come up with something we think could be great, then I'm sure we'll do it."
