According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dane Cook has sold a comedy pitch to the Weinstein Co. At the same time, the actor-comedian is in final negotiations to play opposite Steve Carell in Dan in Real Life, a romantic comedy Peter Hedges is directing for Touchstone Pictures. The sale to the Weinstein Co. came about when Cook was making the rounds pitching another project. He told the execs a one-line idea, and they went for it.
Details are being kept under wraps, though it is known to be a relationship comedy with heart and broad elements. Cook will now write the script with another writer, yet to be determined. Cook will star and produce through his production company, SUperFInger Entertainment. Barry Katz from New Wave Entertainment also will produce, while the company's Brian Volk-Weiss will executive produce.
