According to Variety, The Weinstein Co. has set its Lucky Number Slevin director Paul McGuigan to helm The Equalizer, the bigscreen transfer of the TV drama that starred Edward Woodward.

The story will be a contemporized take on the New York-set drama.

The pic's produced by Mace Neufeld, Tony Eldridge and Michael Sloan; latter created the drama with Richard Lindheim. Weinstein Co.'s Michael Cole, Eric Robinson and Brendan Deneen will shepherd it.

The series ran from 1985-89 on CBS. While the current moviegoing climate doesn't favor films built around older casts, McGuigan said there is no thought of making the title character younger.
