According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Weinstein Co. has pre-emptively bought Kung Fu High School, a novel by Ryan Gattis. Neal Edelstein and Mike Macari are producing under their Macari/Edelstein banner, and Ernesto Foronda will write the screenplay.

Sources said Bob and Harvey Weinstein aggressively beat out rival bidders in the rich deal, which will net the novelist a seven-figure payday, while the screenwriter will receive $800,000 if the movie is made. The project comes with a progress to production with reversion clause, so if cameras are not rolling in one year, the rights revert back to the producers.
