Werewolf by Night is the latest project to arrive in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, serving as a Halloween TV special on Disney+. Legendary composer Michael Giacchino helmed the project, marking his first major directorial outing after composing the soundtrack for countless films and television shows. Giacchino is bringing a classic horror movie vibe to the MCU outing, and he cites a few films as his inspiration for the project.

During an interview with the Post Cred Podcast, the director shares a few movies he believes audiences should watch before Viewing Werewolf by Night, with a ton of inspiration coming from 1940s-era horror films. He says:

"I would say watch The Wolf Man, watch Werewolf of London, watch King Kong, watch The Creature From the Black Lagoon, watch Poltergeist. You could do that too," he says. "I mean, that's another perfect example of a movie that, to me, explores horror but doesn't forget the heart, the character, or the humor of it either." Giacchino continues, "And those are my favorite kind of things. I would also say just watch The Twilight Zone. To me, again, that was a cornerstone for what I wanted to do in terms of telling a shorter story, you know, that had bigger implications and talked about things that were bigger than itself," he explained. "Twilight Zone, to me, Rod Sterling is a god and I just every day thank that he existed cause what he put out in the world to me was some of the best stuff ever."

The quick turnaround from announcement and trailer to release is new for the MCU, which tends to announce projects years before the eventual release. Werewolf by Night was officially announced during the Marvel Studios panel at D23 earlier this month on Sept. 10, and the release date is later next week on Oct. 7. That leaves less than a month between announcements and availability on Disney+, something very uncommon in the Hollywood entertainment industry as a whole.
