Are you ready for a return to Westworld in 2018? You are absolutely not alone and, since Game of Thrones season 7 just ended, people are really looking for something to fill that void. We still have a while to wait for Westworld season 2, but HBO has just released some brief but promising new footage from the hit sci-fi series.

The HBO YouTube channel recently shared a promo titled Beyond Game of Thrones: The Great Unknown. The promo goes over some of the recent hits on the network, but then transitions into a pretty comprehensive preview of what they have coming down the pipeline. Toward the end of the promo there are a few choice seconds of new Westworld footage, but it is more than enough to pique the interest of fans.

Even though it isn't more than a few seconds of new shots, they are interesting and definitely tease that the hosts in the park are going to be in full rebellion mode in Westworld season 2. We see Maeve (Thandie Newton) pressing some unlucky guy against a wall with a gun at his neck. There is also a really intriguing shot of some native warriors, who are fortunately just models, or so it appears, trying to take down a massive bear. Are we going to see lifelike robot bears in Westworld season 2? We did see a tiger in the Westworld Comic-Con trailer, so we can't rule that out. Season 1 did leave us off in a very unstable place, that much is certain.

Dr. Ford (Anthony Hopkins) met his demise before things really hit the fan in the Westworld season 1 finale. There is a gang of uncontrollable rogue robots led by Maeve running loose in the park and wreaking havoc. Plus, we still have Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) to deal with. Not to mention Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and The Man in Black (Ed Harris) who had quite the big reveal at the end of Westworld's first season. There was also the reveal that there are other parks that deal with more than just a western theme. Is that where this polar bear and possibly that tiger are going to come into play? In any case, there are a lot of places for the creative team to take the show from here. But it looks like they want to keep it mysterious for the time being.

HBO has remained tight-lipped on the larger details for Westworld season 2, but co-creator Jonathan Nolan did reveal that the premiere episode will be titled Journey Into Night, which is the name of Dr. Ford's new narrative. HBO has also not set a specific release date for season 2 yet, but it is going to arrive in 2018. Be sure to check out the new promo for yourself below to check out the new Westworld season 2 footage.
