Westworld is continuing with the tradition of taking well-known songs and turning them into haunting instrumentals with a spine-chilling orchestral version of 1993 hit Nirvana song "Heart Shaped Box." The song is now 25 years old, so some of the younger fans of HBO's hit show have had trouble identifying the song, ending up with Nirvana as a trending Google search in the process and bringing some attention to the band. The highly anticipated Westworld Season 2 is only a few weeks away and this new trailer shows a dark and mysterious future.

The new trailer for Season 2 starts off with Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) washed up on a beach while Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) is seen in a library looking for answers while trying on some modern outfits. There's also scenes from a distant battle, beyond Westworld all set to a beautiful version of Nirvana's "Heart Shaped Box." The new instrumental of the iconic song is from the show's accomplished composer Ramin Djawadi. Djawadi starts the song with piano and then accompanies it with cellos, giving it a haunting vibe.

Kurt Cobain, principle songwriter for Nirvana, was a big fan of the cello and it's placed prominently on a few songs from the group's small catalog. The group even had a cellist appear with them on MTV's Unplugged and again throughout the 1993 to 1994 In Utero tour. "Heart Shaped Box" was the first single to be released off of In Utero in the fall of 1993 and it has since become one of the band's biggest hits, helped in part by the music video, shot by Anton Corbijn.

"Heart Shaped Box" isn't the first song from the 1990s to get a makeover by Westworld's composer Ramin Djawadi. The first season of the hit HBO show featured Soundgarden's 1994 hit "Black Hole Sun" as well as two Radiohead songs, "No Surprises" and "Fake Plastic Trees," respectively. Westworld also featured other well-known songs such as the Rolling Stones classic "Paint it Black," which really fit the mood of the show in the most perfect way. Other artists covered for the show include Johnny Cash, the Animals, and Roy Orbison, making for an eclectic choice of music that is all anchored together by Ramin Djawadi's brilliant takes on the songs.

It will be a fun task for fans of Westworld to figure out what the rest of the songs will be in Season 2. Nirvana's "Heart-Shaped Box" fits the mood of the footage perfectly and fans are already looking forward to a proper soundtrack release at the conclusion of the new season.
