FX has stepped up to deliver a nice little Halloween treat for lovers of horror-themed comedy, as the first two teaser trailers for the What We Do in the Shadows TV series have arrived online. The upcoming series is based on the movie of the same name, which was directed by Taika Waititi before he went on to make Thor: Ragnarok for Marvel Studios. Fans of the movie will take solace in these teasers as they make it clear the show will retain the same brand of humor showcased in the movie.

The two teasers are only 15-seconds each, with just enough time to showcase one gag from the show, but that's more than enough. The first teaser shows the trio of new vampire roommates waiting on some virgins to show up at their home, while the second sees them trying to do some grocery shopping with old-timey currency, and the cashier just isn't having it. Even though it's not the same characters, these bits look like they could have been ripped right from the movie and are very much on-brand.

Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement and Jonny Brugh played the trio of vampire roommates in the movie and, unfortunately, they're not going to be featured in the TV series. Instead, the show will look at a group of different vampire roommates, this time in New York City, as opposed to New Zealand, who have also been living together for hundreds of years. The new group consists of Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), Nandor (Kayvan Novak) and Colin (Mark Proksch). While Clement and Waititi don't intend to appear in the show, they are involved as producers.

What We Do in the Shadows was released in 2015 after earning buzz on the festival circuit in 2014 and made a modest $6 million at the box office, working from a budget of less than $2 million. However, rave reviews and excellent word of mouth have helped to keep the movie alive and it's more or less become a cult classic already that is constantly being discovered by new viewers. If the show can capture the same energy, this could wind up being a big hit for FX. This also isn't the first TV spin-off to come to fruition. Earlier this year, Wellington Paranormal, based on the police officers showcased in the movie, aired over in the U.K., but sadly hasn't made its way over to the States just yet.

Taika Waititi also has plans for a movie sequel titled We're Wolves, based on the group of werewolves from the movie. As far as the series goes, FX hasn't yet announced a firm premiere date, but What We Do in the Shadows is expected to debut in spring 2019.
