Universal Pictures is on the hunt for a new director to take over their highly anticipated horror remake The Wolf Man. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brett Ratner, Frank Darabont, James Mangold and Joe Johnston have either met with the studio and producers or are expected to do so in the coming days.

Following Mark Romanek's departure from the film, Universal is expected to sign a director as early as next week. One challenge in the way of production is the inability to work on the script because of the writer's strike, which means any director taking on the project will be locked to the script overseen by Romanek.

The Wolf Man is scheduled to be released in March of 2009.
