Starz has released a first look trailer at their upcoming three-part documentary Who is Ghislaine Maxwell? along with the announcement of the premiere date. The documentary will investigate how Maxwell became involved in Jeffrey Epstein's sex trafficking ring. On the surface, Maxwell was a put-together, Oxford-educated heiress with famous friends. She is the youngest daughter of the late publishing magnate Robert Maxwell.

The documentary features conversations with Maxwell's friends, family members, and confidants as they try to dissect how Maxwell ended up as a co-conspirator on child sex-trafficking charges. Maxwell was found guilty of those charges in December 2021. She is scheduled for sentencing on June 28. In a statement to Variety, Executive Producer Dorothy Byrne discusses what makes Maxwell's story so intriguing to the public:

“We have grown used to stories of men preying on young women. The story of Ghislaine Maxwell shocks and fascinates because she was a woman who preyed on young women. She used the fact that she was a middle-aged woman with a cut-glass English accent to lure vulnerable young women," Byrne says.

Who is Ghislaine Maxwell? is directed by Erica Gornall. Byrne and Mike Lerner executive produce, with Katherine Haywood as producer. The series is produced by All3Media in collaboration with Roast Beef Productions.

Who is Ghislaine Maxwell? debuts June 24 at midnight on the Starz app and on-demand platforms. The first episode will premiere on the Starz channel on June 26, with episodes following weekly.

Before her arrest and conviction, Maxwell had become infamous for her involvement, which spanned decades, with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. The nature of Epstein and Maxwell's relationship is clouded in mystery, and it is unknown how long the two were romantically involved.

In 2005, Epstein was investigated by the Palm Beach Police Department regarding possible sexual abuse of a 14-year-old girl. Epstein pled guilty to procuring a child for prostitution and soliciting a prostitute. He served a little over a year in prison. He was arrested again in 2019, on federal charges of sex trafficking minors in New York and Florida. Epstein died in his jail while awaiting his trial, and his death was ruled a suicide. Following Epstein's death, Maxwell went into hiding. The FBI located her in New Hampshire in July 2020.

Who is Ghislaine Maxwell? is not the first docuseries with Maxwell as a subject. Peacock’s Epstein’s Shadow: Ghislaine Maxwell debuted in 2021 and Paramount+ premiered Ghislaine — Partner In Crime a four-part series this April 2022. Ghislaine — Partner In Crime featured interviews with Maxwell’s siblings, alleged victims and Scotty David, Juror #50 from her trial.
