Of all the casting news coming out of Stephen Sommers' G.I. Joe, the question that remains on everyone's mind is "Who is playing Duke?" The casting of the G.I. Joe team leader will arguably make or break this film, so the anxiety among the fans is understandable. Latino Review has news that Sam Worthington is out, due to his commitment to James Cameron's Avatar, and that the three other contenders are Chris Evans, Matthew Fox and Channing Tatum.

Evans is known to comic book fans for his role as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch in Fantastic Four, while Matthew Fox is recognizable for his role on ABC's Lost, and his role as Racer X in the upcoming Speed Racer adaptation.

Tatum, on the other hand has experience playing military roles, as he will be playing a U.S. soldier in the upcoming Stop Loss.

At the present, the confirmed cast list for G.I. Joe includes Ray Parks (Snake Eyes), Rachel Nichols (Scarlett), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Heavy Duty), Said Taghmaoui (Breaker), Marlon Wayans (Ripcord), Sienna Miller (the Baroness) and Byung-hun Lee (Storm Shadow), and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Duke's best friend, and possibly Cobra Commander). G.I. Joe is on schedule for a 2009 release.
