The View's Whoopi Goldberg will be taking a two-week sabbatical from the talk show after she was suspended by ABC. Per CNN, the suspension comes after she remarked on the program that the Holocaust was "not about race." This led to backlash against Goldberg, prompting the Sister Act star to issue a public apology. The network felt additional steps were still necessary to rectify the situation and it's been announced that Goldberg is taking a mandatory leave of absence.

"Effective immediately, I am suspending Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks for her wrong and hurtful comments," ABC News president Kim Godwin said in a statement. "While Whoopi has apologized, I've asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments. The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family, and communities."

"Yesterday on our show, I misspoke," Goldberg noted on The View before her suspension, following a prior apology on Twitter. "I said something that I feel a responsibility for not leaving unexamined, because my words upset so many people, which was never my intention. I understand why now, and for that I am deeply, deeply grateful because the information I got was really helpful, and it helped me understand some different things."

Goldberg added, "I said the Holocaust wasn't about race and was instead about man's inhumanity to man. But it is indeed about race because Hitler and the Nazis considered Jews to be an inferior race. Now, words matter, and mine are no exception. I regret my comments, as I said, and I stand corrected. I also stand with the Jewish people as they know and y'all know, because I've always done that."

Meanwhile, Whoopi Goldberg is also traveling down memory lane with some acting roles that throw back to some of her most popular characters from the past. The Theodore Rex star is reprising her role as Guinan from Star Trek: The Next Generation for the Paramount+ continuation series Star Trek: Picard. She was just recently featured in a new trailer for that show's second season. Patrick Stewart had previously spoken with Goldberg on The View about getting her back into the Star Trek universe.

Goldberg is also set to appear in Sister Act 3. Tim Federle (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series) will write and direct the sequel which is in development for the streaming service Disney+. Goldberg reprises the role she played in the first two films but no additional details have been revealed about the plot. Chance are other characters from the past will appear in the new film as Goldberg has teased that some of the former child actors we saw in Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit could appear all grown up in the new movie.

Star Trek: Picard will return with season 2 on March 3, 2022, on Paramount+. Sister Act 3 doesn't yet have a release date.
