The arrival of Adam Warlock in the MCU has been a long time coming. Like many of Marvel Studios’ biggest teases, the first hints about the character joining the sprawling comic book narrative came in a post credit scene back in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, and now, several years later, that scene is about to be paid off in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Will Poulter will play Adam Warlock in the upcoming movie, and recently the actor commented on his potential future beyond the film.

Like so many characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Adam Warlock has been coming for some time. At the end of the second Guardians of the Galaxy movie, a defeated Ayesha, leader of the Sovereign race, has become bent on revenge against the Guardians, and as the scene closes out she reveals that she is creating a superweapon that she will call Adam, whom will be used to end the Guardians of the Galaxy. With this in mind, it is clear that Adam Warlock is not going to start Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as a hero, but if and how that changes throughout the movie is currently being kept well under wraps.

While speaking to The Playlist about his latest movie, The Score, Poulter was obviously asked about his upcoming Marvel debut and, even more unsurprisingly, was less than forthcoming with any details about his appearance in the movie or what will be happening with his character. However, he did say one thing about his MCU future: he doesn’t really know if he has one or not. He said:

“I don’t know. I honestly don’t know what’s in store for me. I’m waiting to find out, and that’s the honest truth, but, needless to say, I’d love to sort of go on a journey with that character.”

Back in April, Will Poulter opened up about the process he had needed to go through to take on Adam Warlock's role in the upcoming Marvel movie. While there are plenty of actors who can sit behind walls of CGI graphics, Poulter revealed that his role has required a lot of physical work to get in shape for the part. He previously told The Independent:

“It's difficult talking about it because with Marvel it's all secret squirrel, but the most important thing is that your mental and physical health has to be number one, and the aesthetic goals have to be secondary, otherwise you end up promoting something that is unhealthy and unrealistic if you don't have the financial backing of a studio paying for your meals and training. I'm in a very privileged position in that respect, and I wouldn't recommend anyone do what I did to get ready for that job. I've gone through a series of different diets over the last few months. Now I'm in a maintenance phase, which is quite nice. I'm not eating copious amounts of food to bulk, and I'm not cutting. I'm just maintaining my weight. I've gone through periods of looking at food and feeling like I can't face it, and then you blink and the next minute you're ready to eat furniture because you're so hungry."

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 3, 2023.
