As Will Smith is working on his return to the big screen with the production of Bad Boys 4, he's also soon set to make his mark in the world of video games. Level Infinite and LightSpeed Studios, the studio behind PUBG MOBILE, has announced that the open-world survival RPG game Undawn will be releasing globally on June 15, 2023. Along with this announcement of the game's release date comes a new trailer revealing our first look at Smith in the game in character as survivor Trey Jones. You can view that trailer below.
This is the video game debut for Smith, who lends his likeness to the Trey Jones character. It's a bit reminiscent of I Am Legend, as that film also featured Smith playing an apocalypse survivor, but Trey looks to be facing much more dangerous threats. A press release notes that he will "act as a guide to help other survivors navigate the world four years after a global disaster." In the post-apocalyptic world of Undawn, survivors have split into different factions each with their own rules of survival. As a member of the storied Raven Squad, players will face off against members of the Clowns, Eagles, Night Owls, and Reivers for territory, and make it through some of the darkest nights until the next sunrise. To protect their home, allies, and what's left of humanity, these survivors will need to utilize a wide variety of weapons and armor. Beyond the standard weapons, players can also use tactical gear including melee weapons, drones, decoy bombs, auto turrets and more to level the playing field.
Will Smith Gets Digitized
Some information about Smith's character's attributes have also been showcased in a new image, seen above. Ahead of the game's release, players can also pre-register now to get access to special in-game rewards at launch. That includes in-game currency, ammo, medicine, cosmetics, and other resources. Additionally, greater in-game rewards will also be offered as milestones are reached.
Undawn will be released globally on June 15, 2023. The game is a free-to-play mobile-first experience, per the developers, and will be available on iOS and Android devices. A PC companion version will also be avaialable on Steam and the official website, Undawn.game.
Meanwhile, fans who want to see more of Smith without having to play video games can be rest assured that he's keeping busy with his acting. He is currently on location for Bad Boys 4, reuniting with Martin Lawrence for another feature film. Speaking of video games, the Bad Boys franchise was also given a tie-in video game in 2004 shortly after the release of Bad Boys 2. But while Smith and Lawrence were on the cover of the video game, they did not lend their voices and likenesses to the actual gameplay, and Undawn will still therefore be serving as the video game debut for Smith.
