William Shatner has responded via YouTube video to comments made by director J.J. Abrams regarding why Shatner is not reprising his role of Captain James T. Kirk in the latest version of Star Trek.

Looks like it's a classic case of miscommunication, where Abrams was told that Shatner would not be interested in a cameo appearance and thought the movie should focus more on his character. Shatner explains that he was never contacted to do a cameo, but agreed that he would like a larger role and suggested a part in a follow-up.
