Who doesn't remember the lovable Pooh Bear and his never-ending quest for honey? Who doesn’t remember the straight-laced Rabbit, the sometimes wise but often misinformed Owl, the erratic Tigger, the glum Eeyore, the dynamic mother-son duo of Kanga and Roo, and the ever-timid Piglet? Everyone knows the name Christopher Robin and knows he was a sweet little boy navigating his way through his childhood with his imaginary friends. This diverse and relatable set of characters have been household names since Disney acquired the rights from the estate of the original author, A. A. Milne, in 1961.

Now, forget everything you know about the Hundred Acre Woods. Forget the innocent journey through childhood, and forget how sweet and dependable each character was as each situation ended with the silly old bear and his friends coming together to laugh with their boy. If you have ever wondered what would happen to Pooh and friends if they were abandoned by Christopher Robin and everything went terribly wrong, then check out the trailer for Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. Here is the breakdown of what happens.

Revisiting the Old Hundred Acre Woods

The trailer starts innocently enough with the camera panning over an expanse of trees which we can assume is representative of the Hundred Acre Woods. We then hear the voice of Christoper Robin played by a relatively new actor, Nikolai Leon (The Killing Tree), explaining how he has never brought anyone else out to this spot before. The camera view switches to where we see a woman asking why she is special enough to be the one who he brings here. Christopher assures his fiancé, played by actor Paula Coiz (Tooth Fairy Queen of Pain), that he wants to show her because they will soon be married.

As Christopher and Mary are traversing through the dark woods, she is expressing the doubt that they will ever find them while he determinedly searches for his long-lost friends. The camera pans over what looks to be an empty honey pot and a sign for the name of the woods that looks to be written in blood. Things take an even darker turn when we see an abandoned bike, a human skull, and another sign in blood that is apparently serving as a tombstone or grave marker for Eeyore. Mary then becomes more worried and distressed, pleading with Christopher saying that they need to leave immediately. Christopher, however, remains determined to find them and find out what happened to them.

A little less than halfway through the trailer is when the action speeds up and the audience starts to see what these beloved childhood friends have become. Darkness has fallen in the Hundred Acre Woods as we see Lara, played by model and actor Natasha Tosini (upcoming City Twist on Amazon Prime), faced with the now-grown and absolutely terrifying visage of the horror version of Winnie the Pooh. Pooh quickly reaches out to grab Lara’s hair as the screen cuts to black, and we hear what could be interpreted as breaking bones. A horrifying scream accompanies the camera shift to the trees and another fade to black.

We then switch to a view of a house where a group of five friends all with luggage of some sort is walking up to and talking about how cool it looks. While a couple of these friends seem a bit skeptical and apprehensive about their lodging for their trip, their demeanor seems to lighten a little when a pool is mentioned. The screen cuts to one of the friends sinking down into the steaming water to relax. As some of the lights in the background go out, there is a flash that illuminates not only the revolting Pooh we just saw, but also Piglet, who definitely does not look timid any longer. Gloved hands then hold some sort of cloth over the face of the woman in the water.

In another quick change, the trailer then shows two of the other friends running frightened through the house crying that they need to leave. They are stopped dead in their tracks as they come up to windows where the words “GET OUT” are dripping down the glass in blood. As the friends are looking around terrified and wondering what to do, Jess played by actor Natasha Rose Mills (Return of Krampus) shakily informs the others that she sees someone outside.

In a whirlwind of action, the rest of the trailer commences with a montage of scenes that can be found in so many gory slasher films. We watch the girls get terrorized by the killers. One of the characters is seen with her face beaten and swollen covered in blood, looking up at Pooh. Another is shown getting their head smashed with a sledgehammer by Piglet in the pool. We hear Christopher Robin’s voice over the action as he is crying and pleading with Pooh and Piglet, wondering why they are doing these things and saying he should have never left.

The kicker here is that these actions aren’t being done by some crazed human. Guns, blood, a woman tied up in the road, a fast car trying to shake off the bloody Pooh Bear holding on the roof, and lots of screaming take us through almost to the end of the trailer. The title screen pours onto the screen and then fades to a shot of Pooh and Piglet pouring glass jars of what appears to be blood and honey into another vessel by a fire as the off-key music box lullaby dwindles to an end.

A far cry from the innocent stories we are used to, this nightmare fuel of a trailer puts in the work to show us what happens when childhood memories go bad. With a theatrical release date of February 15, we won’t have to wait long to find out what really happened to Pooh and Piglet in Christopher Robin’s absence.
