NBC has handed out a script commitment for a reboot of the 1987 series Wiseguy. Homeland writer/executive producer Alexander Cary is penning the pilot script.

Wiseguy ran for four seasons on CBS from 1987 to 1990. The series starred Ken Wahl as Vinnie Terranova, a former Justice Department agent who agrees to work for the Organized Crime Bureau of the FBI. He is sent to prison for 18 months to back up his cover, before being released to infiltrate the Steelgrave crime syndicate. Little is known about the story for this new version of the show.

20th Century Fox Television and Chernin Entertainment will produce the pilot. Stephen J. Cannell, who passed away in 2010, created the original series with Frank Lupo.
