Fans of the Witchblade TV series, which ran on TNT, can breathe a sigh of relief. According to the official website of actor Anthony Cistaro, who played Kenneth Irons on the series, Witchblade is coming to DVD, with commentary being recorded now.

In an entry dated January 10, 2008, Cistaro's site announced:

Anthony will be filming interviews next week for the long awaited Witchblade DVD! Not sure yet if if will be the complete series.

Witchblade was an adaptation of Top Cow's comic book of the same name, which told the story of Detective Sara Pezzini, who comes into possession of the ancient Witchblade, an artifact that can only be wielded by a worthy female host. Designed to act as an instrument of balance, the Witchblade serves both as a weapon and as armor for the user.

The series ran on the TNT network from 2001-2002, following a successful pilot film in August of 2000. It was written by Marc Silvestri (who also wrote the comic) and J.D. Zeik. The show starred Yancy Butler as Sara Pezzini, Anthony Cistaro as Kenneth Irons, David Chokachi as Jake McCartey, Eric Etebari as Ian Nottingham and Will Yun Lee as Danny Woo. Although the series was considered a success by critics and fans, it was canceled after Butler was ordered into rehab for alcoholism.

No word is currently forthcoming on the release date for the Witchblade DVD, but with the news from Cistaro, we do at least know that it's coming.
