If the Russo Brothers get their way, Chris Evans will be the next Logan when the X-Men get rebooted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Joe and Anthony Russo, who co-directed two Captain America movies along with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, recently endorsed Evans to play Wolverine. The two are both in agreement over this choice, with Anthony elaborating to Comicbook.com:

"Evans has incredible range and great physicality, and he's real good at body control. He's an incredible actor. I don't mean this in a bad way, but he's nothing like Captain America. Steve Rogers is very controlled and quiet, understated. Chris is energetic and funny and charismatic, and he brings a lot of energy to set. I'd love to see him do something like Wolverine."

This is an interesting choice, and it's not outside the realm of possibility, given that the multiverse theoretically allows for MCU actors to return in different roles. Evans has just recently teased the idea of returning in the MCU as someone besides Steve Rogers, noting that he'd be more open to coming back as his Fantastic Four character Johnny Storm. But the idea of having Evans playing Wolverine intrigued many Marvel fans, who requested some fan art from BossLogic imagining the cast. As it turned out, the digital artist had once crafted such artwork already, though he had done so as a joke at the time.

The internet is very divided on who exactly should play the next Wolverine. While Hugh Jackman has retired from the role, some fans are still holding onto the idea of having him come back by way of the multiverse. Meanwhile, various actors have been suggested by fans for a new Logan, and some popular picks include Scott Eastwood, Karl Urban, Henry Cavill, and Tom Hardy. Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has also come up a lot with fans, a choice that Radcliffe himself doesn't seem to understand or feel is all that likely to happen.

"I have heard this," Radcliffe has said of the rumors he might play Logan, via The Tonight Show. "This is something that has come up every so often for the past few years, and every time it comes up, I'm like, 'That's not true. There's nothing behind that.'"

He added, "I think it's because Wolverine, in the comics, is fairly short. So, I think it's people going, 'Who's a short actor? Him! He can maybe play him.' I mean, anything that implies the fleetingest similarity to Hugh Jackman is incredibly flattering, so I'm happy with that."

Fans will likely continue to debate who should play the next Wolverine until an official casting announcement comes from Marvel. Even then, we can be sure the news will be met with some division to a degree, given how so many fans have their personal favorites in mind for the role.
