20th Century Fox has hired director J Blakeson (The Disappearance of Alice Creed) to helm Wool, based on a 5-part novel series from self-publisher Hugh Howey.

The movie, which is being produced by Ridley Scott, revolves around subterranean silos that house the remnants of humanity on a post apocalyptic Earth. Here is the author's own synopsis.

"Thousands of them have lived underground. They've lived there so long, there are only legends about people living anywhere else. Such a life requires rules. Strict rules. There are things that must not be discussed. Like going outside. Never mention you might like going outside. Or you'll get what you wish for."

Wool does not yet have a set start date, with a release being eyed for late 2014 or early 2015.
