Paramount has bestowed World War Z 2 with an official summer 2017 release date. The sequel will continue the story set up in the 2013 blockbuster hit World War Z. Brad Pitt was confirmed to reprise his role as Gerry Lane shortly after the first movie opened and proved to be a success. Though, this next installment will have a new director, with The Impossible's Juan Antonio Bayona signing onto helm the latest chapter in the zombie apocalypse.

World War Z 2 will arrive in theaters June 9, 2017. That's the exact same day 20th Century Fox has set for its The Fantastic Four 2 sequel, which is already confirmed by the studio to bring back its original cast. In other release date news, it looks like Universal Pictures has set its sequel My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 for release on March 25, 2016. Comic book fans know this is the same date that Warner Bros. and DC plan to release their epic ensemble Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, perhaps the biggest superhero movie of all time. This is seen as perfect counter programming.

Steven Knight is set to pen the screenplay for World War Z 2, with Brad Pitt back on as a producer. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 will once again be written by franchise creator Nia Vardalos, who will also star alongside the entire returning cast including John Corbett. The plan is for an even bigger Greek wedding. Kirk Jones will direct, with the sequel once again produced by Rita Wilson and Playtone partners Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman.
