World War Z 2 has locked in Steven Knight to write the screenplay for this sequel from Paramount and Skydance.

Brad Pitt is set to reprise his role as United Nations employee Gerry Lane as he continues to clean up the globe after a terrible zombie virus has infected much of the populace. Juan Antonio Bayona, best known for The Impossible and The Orphanage, will direct.

No plot details are known at this time. The film is expected to continue Gerry Lane's story as a family man faced with helping the entire world recover from a devastating disaster. Will he be able to balance his marriage and his full-time job as zombie clean-up crewmember #1? Once again, the screenplay will pull from Max Brooks' popular novel of the same name, upon which the first film was based.

Brad Pitt is producing the sequel alongside Jeremy Kleiner and Dede Gardner for their Plan B banner. Steven Knight is also writing an untitled World War II romantic thriller for Brad Pitt, though that project is currently without a distributor.

2013's World War Z went onto earn $540 million at the global box office, and currently resides as Brad Pitt highest grossing film of all-time. Steven Knight recently directed the thriller Locke starring Tom Hardy and was nominated for an Oscar in 2004 for his work on Dirty Pretty Things.
