Wyrmwood is one of the best, if not the most popular, zombie franchises. With explosive action and a very unusual take on a zombie apocalypse, the films in the franchise are a treat to watch for zombie fanatics. Despite its low budget, the first film, "Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead," released in 2014, was a terrific introduction to the franchise. The second picture, on the other hand, upped the ante by including a lot of gore and action as well as a little mystery to it.

After losing his wife and daughter in the first film, Barry went in search of his sister Brooke, who had been held captive by a mad scientist. After he injects a couple of doses of zombie blood into her system, she attains total control over them, and the second installment continues its trend. At the end of the second film, the brother and sister duo sacrifice themselves to save Rhys and Maxi, but the film series is not over yet, and it should not be. Here's why we believe the Wyrmwood film franchise deserves a sequel, which may or may not already be in the works.

Z Nation Vibes

While many consider Wyrmwood to be Mad Max meets Dawn of the Dead, it is more akin to Z Nation. The setting and fast-moving zombies fit the former, and the same can be said about the latter. Furthermore, one of the main characters controlling the zombies is the only thing that sets it apart from others and comparable to Z Nation. Despite its flaws, Z Nation was an excellent zombie series that we would almost certainly never see again.

There is no untapped thinking in the writing of its episodes, from a deadly cheese wheel formed of zombies to a zombie tsunami, or as we like to call it, Zunami. When Z Nation ended in 2018, many fans felt left out as it had amused them for years. Since the Wyrmwood franchise combines numerous elements with Z Nation, such as controlled zombies, sarcastic humor, and mad scientists, it would be nice to see more films, significantly if it adds more crazy stuff as it did with a robotic zombie in Wyrmwood: Apocalypse.

Many events happened in the second film, including Rhys' cooperation with Brooke and Barry, which resulted in the demolition of the mad scientist's bunker. While everyone expected him to seek vengeance for Barry's murder of his identical brother, he surprised us by remaining upright. At the end of Wyrmwood: Apocalypse, we witness Barry infected and the mad scientist fleeing while trapping the group in the bunker, which will shortly self-destruct. However, Barry and Brooke make the ultimate sacrifice by ejecting Maxi and Rhys through the lift, which runs on zombie fuel.

While it was a heroic sacrifice, here's the plot twist: as they are hybrid zombies, the brother and sister duo survive despite being incinerated in the bunker. Rhys and Maxi, on the other side, save Grace by killing the mad scientist. So far, in both films, they have only destroyed two hideouts: one to discover what the crazy scientist is up to and the other to save Grace. Given the government's extensive network, assuming there is any left after the apocalypse, there could be many more experiments taking place with various other scientists.

If there is a sequel to the franchise, which is highly likely given the prequel's loose ends, we will probably see a brief reunion of the group, followed by them defeating the militia and preventing them from killing any more survivors for the sake of manufacturing anti-viral pills.

Zombie Movies: The More, the Merrier

The cinematic zombie trend has been around for a long time, with George Romero bringing several of these horror thrillers to audiences. Beginning with Night of the Living Dead, the director went on to create Dawn of the Dead, The Crazies, and countless other successful films. Furthermore, zombie films have been declining in quantity and quality with time, as evidenced by Army of the Dead, which failed to meet fans' expectations when it was released in 2021. With Wyrmwood 3 hitting new heights in terms of story and entertainment, viewers may finally enjoy an incredible zombie flick after a long time.

While the third film has yet to be announced, Roache-Turner, the writer and director of the Wyrmwood films, expressed his thoughts on a sequel in an interview with GameRant. As he put it,

"It's interesting because the U.S. is our big market. We did the best in the U.S., Americans reacted really well to it. If this release does similar business to the first one, I'll start writing another tomorrow. It's that simple. It's got to get decent business and decent reviews, and we'll make the third one. We're already getting decent business, and we're already getting good reviews. I think we might be able to make the third one. I'm excited to start writing it. I've started writing the structure of it the other day, and I was like, "Oh, this could be good." I just had one of those writing sessions where the ideas would not stop. There may be a TV series."
