Fox's The X-Files returns for its 11th Season in just a few short days, debuting Wednesday, January 3 on Fox, but the future of the show beyond that is in doubt. Back in October, Gillian Anderson revealed Season 11 is her last, which seemed to take many fans by surprise, since it was never confirmed that Season 11 will in fact be the final X-Files season. During a new interview, the actress reiterated her plans in a new interview, confirming she won't be returning for another season. Here's what she had to say below.

"I've said from the beginning this is it for me. I was a bit surprised by people's (shocked) reaction to my announcement...because my understanding was that this was a single season."

The all-new, 10-episode second installment of The X-Files (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) event series once again will be executive-produced by creator Chris Carter, with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returning in their roles as iconic FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. Mitch Pileggi also returns as FBI Asst. Director Walter Skinner. Additionally, the all-new episodes will feature guest-star appearances by Annabeth Gish, Robbie Amell, Lauren Ambrose, Karin Konoval, Barbara Hershey, Haley Joel Osment and William B. Davis, who reprises his role as "Cigarette Smoking Man." In 2016, The X-Files drew an average multi-platform audience of nearly 16 million viewers and was the season's No. 2 broadcast drama, as well as the most talked-about event series on Twitter. Along with Carter, series veteran Glen Morgan serves as an executive producer.

Along with this new season of The X-Files, it was also confirmed that a new X-Files mobile game is coming in February. Players assume the role of a FBI Special Agent, investigating mysterious crime scenes that defy explanation. They must uncover hidden clues, collect evidence, solve puzzles, interrogate witnesses and suspects to solve the case. The events of X-Files: Deep State start to unfold sometime during spring 2010, taking place between the tv series season 9 and 10. The game will feature a storyline revolving around the alien invasion and government conspiracies, as well as self-contained episodes related to various paranormal cases.

The X-Files: Deep State will be available on the App Store, Google Play and Facebook, and the game is free to play with in-app purchases. There will be new cases to solve on a monthly basis, with myth-arc and monsters of the week. There will also be customizable character appearance and style options, as players make moral decisions that impact the storyline. The dynamic gameplay is complimented with an engaging storyline, and the game will feature appearances of fan favorite characters. Game languages include English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Russian. Along with Mulder and Scully, this season will bring back a number of other returning characters.

Mitch Pileggi will be back as Skinner, with Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose also reprising their Season 10 roles as Einstein and Miller. Barbara Hershey has also joined the cast as the recurring character of Erika Price, who is only described as a "powerful figure who represents a mysterious organization." With the Season 11 premiere just around the corner, hopefully we'll find out more about this highly-anticipated season soon. Until then, you can check out TV Insider for their full interview.
