We could be seeing X-Men: The Animated Series coming back with new episodes, as the creative team behind the classic cartoon wants to continue the show. As Disney now holds the rights, those involved with the X-Men cartoon are planning to approach the company with the idea to pitch the series. Although the show ended its original run over two decades ago, the team is hopeful to simply resume the show from when we last saw the X-Men in 1997. This also suggests the art style would be similar, although a bit updated. "The one thing we'd like to do more than anything else is to continue where we left off," says artist and producer Larry Houston.

While it's a bit preemptive to start celebrating the potential revival, one thing fans can count on is seeing a bit of a reunion of the cast this fall. Several members of the leading cast of voice actors will be present at Los Angeles Comic Con on Oct. 12 to speak about the series, marking the first time they have all been together since 1997. Set to appear are Cal Dodd (Wolverine), Lenore Zann (Rogue), George Buza (Beast), Chris Potter (Gambit), and Chris Britton (Mr. Sinister). This reunion can only help further the excitement surrounding the possible revival, so hopefully the folks at Disney are paying attention.

X-Men: The Animated Series first premiered on Fox Kids on Halloween in 1992, following Marvel's initial failed attempt at developing Pryde of the X-Men as a TV series. The first episode to air was the two-parter "Night of the Sentinels," which remains one of the most memorable episodes of the cartoon. The show became a big success both critically and financially, boasting high ratings, positive reviews from critics, and a plethora of tie-in toys flying off the shelves. Decades after its conclusion, the series remains one of the most beloved Marvel adaptations, even after the advent of the MCU. Ultimately, the show would last for about five years and five seasons, ending with a run of 76 total episodes.

The X-Men franchise has had an amazing run on the big screen over the past two decades, but it seems things are starting to cool down in that area. The newest movie in the series, Dark Phoenix, just had its premiere and was met with very harsh reception from critics. With a paltry 22% rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie is officially the lowest-rated X-Men movie yet. What's interesting is that the Dark Phoenix storyline previously played out on the Marvel animated series with a much better reception. These factors can only help the show's chances in seeing a revival.

Hopefully, for fans of the show, the pitch meeting with Disney will be a success. The company has several other Marvel TV shows in the works for Disney+, and a revival of the beloved X-Men cartoon seems like a perfect new addition to the streaming service. At this point, all we can do is hope for the best. This information comes to us from The Hollywood Reporter.
