/x-men-apocalypse-cast-cyclops-storm-jean-grey/Yesterday, it was being reported that a number of young up and coming, mostly unknown actors were testing for three very coveted roles in X-Men: Apocalypse. With the movie set in the 1980s, we'll be getting younger versions of Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm this time around. As luck would have it, the rumor broke just as one of the candidates was making a public appearance.

Making his stateside debut in the comic book adaptation Kingsman: The Secret Service, which is in theaters this February and directed by X-Men: First Class' Matthew Vaughn, Taron Egerton is said to be up for Young Cyclops. He was at a special Q&A screening for Kingsman: The Secret Service when the news began to make the rounds. He doesn't claim to know anything about the casting, but remains fairly elusive in his response:

"I really can't comment on the Cyclops thing. I'm not really sure what's going on there or where that [rumor] came from, but my friend Nicholas Hoult plays Beast and he says that's very fun. Of course, everyone would like to play a superhero, but this is by no means me saying I would like to go play Cyclops. So, I don't know."

Will he be the next Cyclops? Who knows. Jamie Blackley (If I Stay) and Tye Sheridan (Mud) are also said to be testing for the role. Chloe Moretz was actually a strong contender to play a young Jean Grey, but she couldn't commit due to her very busy schedule. Other actresses now being eyed include Saoirse Ronan (The Grand Budapest Hotel) and Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones), both fairly well known names. As far as Storm goes, Fox is reportedly looking at Alexandra Shipp (Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B) and Zendaya Coleman (Shake It Up). What do you think? Do any of these names stand out as worthy successors to the X-Men universe?
