/x-men-apocalypse-cast-lana-condor-jubilee/Earlier this week, it was announced that newcomer Lana Condor will be taking on the role of Jubilation Lee, AKA Jubilee, in X-Men: Apocalypse. Now we have word of another Mutant joining the mix. Apparently 20th Century Fox is in the process of casting fan-favorite Psylocke. No actors have been mentioned at this time.

Psylocke, whose real name is Elizabeth "Betsy" Braddock, has a storied history in the Marvel comics. She was first introduced in Captain Britain #8 in 1976. 10 years later she took over the role of Captain Britain from her twin brother in 1986's Captain Britain #12. She was first introduced as Psylocke a year later in 1987's Uncanny X-Men #213, and then two years later she became Lady Mandarin in 1989's Uncanny X-Men #256. Hailing from Braddock Manor, England, Psylocke can generate a telekinetic katana, or direct her telekinesis through her fists to strike as if she had superhuman strength; she is also immune to telepathic probes and attacks. Psylocke's original powers were precognition, telepathy, mental bolts, mind control, and generating illusions. After swapping powers with Jean Grey, Betsy could create force fields, move objects with her mind, and generate energy blades. It is not known how she, or her mutant powers, will be utilized in X-Men: Apocalypse.

Though she had been around for a long time, Psylocke received a makeover in 1989, making her one of the most popular female mutants in X-Men history. While not seen in the movie, Psylocke's name does appears on a list of names Mystique scrolls through on Stryker's computer while looking for Magneto's file in X2: X-Men United. She had a more substantial role in the novelization of that film, and was actually seen on screen as a villain in X-Men: The Last Stand, played by Meiling Melançon. She was part of The Omegas who go to battle against the X-Men. While not much of her background has been explored on screen, it is not known how substantial a role she plays in X-Men: Apocalypse.

The upcoming franchise sequel promises to be one of the most Mutant-heavy movies yet. Other X-Men: Apocalypse newcomers include Oscar Isaac as the title villain, Alexandra Shipp as young Storm, Sophie Turner as young Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan as young Cyclops and Kodi Smit-McPhee as young Nightcrawler. As the film is said to be the conclusion of the trilogy that started with X-Men: First Class and continued in X-Men: Days of Future Past, it is expected, yet not confirmed, that cast members James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult and Evan Peters will all return to reprise their roles. Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, Halle Berry's old Storm and Channing Tatum's Gambit are expected to cameo.
