X-Men: Apocalypse writer-producer Simon Kinberg revealed last month that the production will re-cast iconic X-Men characters such as Cyclops, Storm, Jean Grey and others, since the movie is set in the 1980s, years before the events portrayed in 2000's X-Men. James Marsden, who returned as Cyclops in this summer's X-Men: Days of Future Past, revealed that he knows exactly who should play a younger Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse, his The Best of Me co-star Luke Bracey.

In The Best of Me, Luke Bracey plays the younger version of James Marsden's character Dawson Cole. When James Marsden was asked if Luke Bracey would be a good fit to play a younger Scott Summers/Cyclops, the actor had this to say, joking that Luke Bracey would simply take over all of his roles.

"Yeah, that'd be great [if Luke Bracey took over as Cyclops]. Then he could just eventually take over being me. Then I would never get another role as long as I live!"

At 25 years of age, Luke Bracey may be too old to play Cyclops, who would be in his early teen years in the 1980s, depending on exactly what year the movie is set in. However, James Marsden admitted he isn't sure what will happen with the project.

"Who knows what's happening [with 'X-Men]? It's all just speculation at this point. If [recasting] does happen, it was because of a timeline issue. I know so little about that whole world. Most of the time, the actors are the last to know."

Simon Kinberg also revealed last month that X-Men: Apocalypse will close out the trilogy that includes X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past, the latter of which created a whole new timeline that brought Cyclops' girlfriend Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) back from the dead. It remains to be seen if the end of this trilogy will mean that the franchise will go back to focus on the original X-Men characters in this newly-established timeline.
