Just one week from today, X-Men: Apocalypse will finally hit theaters in North America. But this highly-anticipated superhero adventure has already opened in several international markets so far, including the U.K., Russia and Hong Kong over the last few days. In fact, almost every international territory is debuting the movie this weekend, with the exception of North America, China (June 3) and Russia (August 11). Today we have a new report that reveals what exactly happens in the post credit scene. Naturally, there will be spoilers, so read on at your own risk.

U.K. publication The Independent has a new report that breaks down the post credit scene, which we learned last week from producer Simon Kinberg will introduce a brand new character into the X-Men universe. This character may not be well-known among casual fans, but die-hard comic book lovers will certainly recognize the name that is prominently displayed in this scene. The name that is dropped is Essex, which refers to Nathaniel Essex, a.k.a. Mister Sinister.

The scene in question takes place at the Alkali Lake facility where the Weapon X experiments took place. In the most recent trailer, young mutants such as Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) and Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee) were seen at the Alkali Lake facility, before the final shot revealed Wolverine's (Hugh Jackman) claw. The post-credit scene also takes place at Alkali Lake, with an unknown man stepping over the bodies left in the wake of Wolverine's carnage, after he was let out of his cell. This mystery man then retrieves a vial of Wolverine's blood, marked "Weapon X," which he puts into a briefcase that shows the Essex Corp logo.

In the Marvel Comics, Mister Sinister is a geneticist who was actually responsible for Apocalypse's (Oscar Isaac) awakening, who thought that this ancient mutant represents the key to the evolution of the human race. He is later granted his own immortality from Apocalypse himself. Mister Sinister has a number of mutant abilities, such as telekinesis, shape-shifting and regeneration. Last week, Simon Kinberg teased that this new character could potentially tie in to a number of different X-Men movies, including Wolverine 3, which is currently shooting and set for release on March 3, 2017.

This report speculates that Mister Sinister could be the new villain in X-Men 7, which 20th Century Fox has in development, set in the 1990s, 10 years after the events of X-Men: Apocalypse. It's also possible that he could be connected to the upcoming Gambit, or even the upcoming Deadpool 2. It's also worth noting that Sinister was so obsessed with Jean Grey and Cyclops that he created clones of Jean Grey, who ended up marrying Cyclops which bore a son named Nathan Summers, a.k.a. Cable. Cable has already been confirmed to appear in Deadpool 2, so it's possible that Mister Sinister could be thrown into the mix.
