Have the official titles of both the upcoming Blade and X-Men reboots now been revealed? Thanks to a report by Deadline regarding the slate of San Diego Comic-Con 2022, it seems to be that Marvels' Blade will be titled The Blade, while the MCU’s take on the X-Men will go by The Mutants.

This is not the first time that The Mutants has been touted as the official title for when the likes of Professor Xavier, Wolverine, Cyclops and Jean Grey enter the MCU fray. This title was rumored last year, and while the idea of an X-Men movie not being called X-Men seems a little strange, it does track with how the MCU has been slowly introducing the existence of mutants. Most recently in, SPOILER ALERT, the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel.

As for Blade, the title The Blade is somewhat jarring, as the character is usually referred to simply as Blade and has never really held such prestige that he requires a ‘the’ before his name. It has been previously rumored that the Marvel Blade reboot would be titled Blade, The Vampire Slayer but, according to the report, the studio will go with The Blade instead.

Calling the reboot The Blade would, of course, differentiate it from the earlier franchise starring Wesley Snipes and could even hint at the movie's direction. Perhaps The Blade is more of a mantle held by the vampire slayer rather than just his name. A mantle that he may pass on to someone else. This would line up with other rumors surrounding the MCU Blade reboot, which suggests that the story will introduce Blade’s daughter, Fallon Grey. A rumor which has been further bolstered by the recent casting of The Wonder Years star Milan Ray alongside Mahershala Ali as the titular Marvel hero.

Whatever their respective titles turn out to be, the idea of both Blade and the X-Men (as well as the wider mutants) being introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a hugely exciting one. While there have already been hints and teases of both Blade and the mutant’s presence in the universe, both projects continue to remain largely a mystery.

The biggest move towards the existence of mutants so far comes courtesy of - SPOILER ALERT AGAIN - Ms. Marvel which, revealed that the titular superhero is herself a member of Homo Superiors. So secret are the methods of Marvel boss Kevin Feige that not even the Ms. Marvel directors know what he has planned for mutants in the MCU.

"[The 'mutation' reveal] was the best-kept secret of the whole show,” Adil El Arbi explained. “We didn't even know about it until we suddenly had a script. So, when we had it, we asked, 'What's that about? What's going to happen?' And Kevin Feige would say, 'Just shoot this, put the little music on and that's that. Should you be part of the future of Ms. Marvel, then you'll know a little bit more.'"

“Kevin Feige has the master plan, Bilall Fallah added. “He’s the only one who knows.”

While we may not see much else from the likes of The Blade and The Mutants at San Diego Comic-Con, it is expected that we will be gifted with the first trailer to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, as well as sneak peeks at Disney+ shows and other major announcements.
